Woodland Park

Quick review:

Parking: Mainly street parking and a smaller parking lot off of Kentucky Ave.

Structures: two main structures, a merry-go-round, two Expression Swings (mom and baby swings), regular swings, an orbit swing and swing chairs

Safety: lots of space between playground and the street

We decided to try out a new park this week and headed over to Woodland Park close to downtown Lexington. They recently renovated their playground, so we wanted to try it out. And, it is pretty awesome! There are a lot of great features of this playground that I haven't seen anywhere else in Lexington. For one, they have the much anticipated Expression Swings (link here) where there is a swing that you sit on and you put the baby in a higher swing and you swing together. They are awesome! And, for those of you with older kids, your older child can swing your younger child and have fun doing it! Win-win! But, if your kids do not prefer this type of swing, they do not have any other baby swings. They also have the swing chairs that are great for older children that can't swing in regular swings. They have a super fun merry-go-round that has backs to the seats so you don't have to worry as much about your child going flinging off of it. My kiddo loved this and loved seeing the older kids running along to get it moving. The play structures have a lot for climbing, but only a few slides. So, if your kids are slide-lovers, this may be a minus. There is also an orbit swing, rock-climbing areas and lots of other areas to climb and practice balance.

The playground is in the shade and there are a ton of picnic tables under a pavilion right next to the playground for eating lunch or a snack. And, you have a clear sight-line between all the different play areas and the pavilion, which is great for those with multiple kids. Parking is mainly street parking along East High Street or Kentucky Avenue. But, there is a smaller parking lot off of Kentucky Avenue. The park also has a pool and a skate park and both seemed very nice.

Overall, I would highly recommend checking this new park out. It has some neat new features like the Expression swings and the merry-go-round that kids seem to love. Plus, it is in the shade, which is awesome this time of year. The downsides are the somewhat tricky parking and there only being two slides for those kids that just cannot get enough sliding. Hope you enjoy!
