What's Going on this Weekend- April 29th and 30th

The last weekend of April is officially here! Lots of fun events including Superhero yoga, PB&J event, an Arbor Day event, a Coaster Car Event, Slime Bar, fun story times, and an Irish Homecoming event. You would think it was already summer though with the weather coming up. Highs in the 90s all weekend with a chance of rain on Saturday. Get out there and enjoy it before the humidity comes!

Saturday, April 29th

SALA Studio is having a Superhero Kids Yoga at 10am. Back by popular demand! Dress your little, aged 4-7, in a superhero costume (real or pretend) and watch as they perform feats of unbelievable strength and flexibility! Kid's Superhero Yoga is FREE and hysterical. The Lexington Philharmonic is having a PB&J Series-Music Builds a Story- Peter and the Wolf. Make some noise for LexPhil's final Peanut Butter & Jelly Concerts of the 2016/17 season, Music Builds A Story! at the Louden House on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10 & 11am and 2pm at the Josephine Sculpture Park. Music Builds A Story! will feature the LexPhil woodwind quintet in the timeless tale of Peter and the Wolf, with narration by Bianca Lynn Spriggs. Following each PB&J concert, children will have the opportunity to try out different instruments at LexPhil’s Instrument Petting Zoo enjoy PB&J sandwiches with their families.Tickets: $5 all ages, in advance & at the door. The Arboretum is having an Arbor Day: 26th Annual Celebration from 10am to 2pm. Celebrating the past, PLANting the future. Opening ceremony at 10:00 am in the Tree Giveaway Tent includes: -Proclamation by the Mayor-Recognition of Sponsors-Cassidy Elementary School 1st & 2nd graders chorus performance; Free admission to the Kentucky Children's Garden!3 Exhibitor Tents | Tree Giveaways | Birdhouse Displays; Park in UK's Orange Lot and take a free shuttle to the Arboretum! Healthy Kids Day at the Paris-Bourbon County YMCA in Paris from 10am to 12pm. During Healthy Kids Day, the Y and a variety of Bourbon County agencies will share the importance of health and safety, physical activity and healthy food choices with children of all ages through a variety of activities. Join us for a morning of fun activities, healthy snacks, inflatables, face painting, information stations, prize giveaways, a gymnastics exhibition and much more. Kentucky Reptile Expo at the Convention Center from 10am to 4pm. The Kentucky Reptile Expo features captive bred reptiles and supplies from some of the top breeders in the country.It is an excellent opportunity to see fascinating reptiles, amphibians, spiders, insects, and more, as well as learn more about them by talking with experts in their care. It is also a great way to save money since almost all animals and products are offered at wholesale prices, which may be over 50% lower than those of pet stores.Admission is $5 at the door, day of show.Kids under age 10 admitted Free. The Family Center in Wilmore is having a Bricks 4 Kidz Family Build-Cars event from 11am to 1pm. Join Bricks 4 Kids as we have a special FAMILY BUILD and make Race Cars!!! $10 per family.Spend a fun family time building and playing together. Daddy's LOVE this activity especially! Wilmore is having a Coaster Car Race Festivities event from 12pm to 3pm. The Annual Jim Edd Shearer Coaster Car Derby! The Family Center is hosting Bricks 4 Kids. Creative Art League of Jessamine County, Inc. will be face painting during the preliminary trials.Local restaurants will be open! Wild Figs Books and Coffee is having a Drag Queen Story Hour from 2pm to 3pm. You asked for it, so we're doing it again! In order to inspire safe spaces for inclusive dialogue and promote childhood literacy, Sunflower Kids and Wild Fig Books & Coffee are teaming up with Lexington performer, Uma Jewels to share some incredible children's books and conversation about diversity and self-love. Louisville Zoo is having a Celebrate frogs! event all day. Learn more about amphibians and what you can do to help them. McConnell Springs is having An Irish Homecoming: Sharing Our Uncommon Culture, Music & Heritage event from 9am to 6pm. In honor of our namesake and deeply rooted Scots-Irish heritage, please join us for a conference on the Irish/Celtic/Appalachian culture on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at McConnell Springs park in Lexington, KY. It will be a free all-day event, 9am - 6pm. We will have great live music, history, genealogy and dance, as well as presentations on Irish & Appalachian genealogy, history & culture. Our goal is to have a friendly, comfortable day enjoying our common roots culture, meeting like-minded people, sharing cultural knowledge & experiences. If you play or sing traditional British Isles or traditional Appalachian music, please bring instruments & songs if you want to join in a traditional music session. The Explorium of Lexington is having a Pet Patch-Up Event at 11am. In partnership with Banfield, we will be hosting a Pet Patch-Up event, so bring your children and their favorite stuffed animal to be examined by a Banfield veterinarian who will also provide tips on pet care! The Lexington Children's Theatre is performing The Red Badge of Courage at 2pm and 7pm. Based on the novel by Stephen Crane. Adapted by Kathryn Schultz Miller. Henry Fleming can’t wait to grow up and grow out of his small town – joining the Union army is his chance! Soon Henry learns the reality of war and what it means to fight for what’s right. Sky Zone has Toddler Time from 10am to 11am. Let your kids 5 and under enjoy three different jumping areas, including a foam pit. Toddler Time is a great shared experience for child and parent. A time for your little ones to discover the joy of being active, bouncing under the supervision of their parents, and without interference from the big kids. $12 per child, including socks. $2 extra for non-jumper parent socks. Celebrate Earth Day with special keeper talks, more than 20 community eco-partner displays (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) and $8.25 Zoo admission all day courtesy of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company.
