What's Happening this Weekend- May 13th and 14th

This weekend, check out a Strawberry Festival, Fishing Derby, a Mother and Me Tea Event, Birding Festival, some great story times, and so much more. A warm up this weekend, with highs in the low 70s on Saturday and high 70s on Sunday. Just wanted to wish all the mothers out there a Happy Mother's Day! Being a mom is a really tough job, but one of the best ones out there. Hope you have a restful, fun day!

Saturday, May 13th

Strawberry Festival in Richmond from 9am to 1pm. Celebrating the season of the strawberry, this year marks our fourth year in presenting the Downtown Richmond Farmers Market Strawberry Festival. Last year was the first year we added the Little Miss Strawberry pageant and it was a huge success, with over 30 applicants and three different age categories. Last year we sold 1500 gallons of strawberries in two hours and we expect to double that this year. Our Growers are already busy cultivating and growing the best strawberries in Madison County. Come out and celebrate with us with a day of fun, music,games, strawberry dishes, food competition and of course the Highlight, the Little Miss Strawberry competition. More information here.

Kentucky Fishing Derby at Jacobson Park from 9am to 12pm. Bring the kids out for a fun morning of fishing! First 200 kids get FREE fishing gear compliments of Pure Fishing.• Free and open to the public• No fishing license required for youth age 15 and under.• Youth age 16+ and adults can purchase a 1-day fishing license for $7 at https://app.fw.ky.gov/solar/ or by calling 877-598-2401• Instruction and assistance available• All participants must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or chaperone. The Family Center in Wilmore is having a Farmer's Market Fun Day from 9:30am to 10:30am. Farmer's Market FUN! is a great way to include the whole family in our Wilmore Farmer's Market. Located just across the street families may come for a time of games, crafts and stories at 9:30am. At 10am we open up our Farmer's Market Village Play Area for Free Play. Each week brings a new presenter and topic!HERB FUN! with Jenny Shockey. Herbs are fun to grow and use! I have thyme and oregano in my garden year round. And I love basil. We will be decorating pots and starting some herb seeds!!We suggest a donation per family to cover cost of this program. Members are FREE. Fit4Mom Lexington is having an Our Village: Free Family Day event from 9:30am to 11am. It's Free Family Day on Saturday, May 13th and it's one you don't want to miss! We will be doing a few special things to celebrate Mother's Day after class- a cute craft may be involved! Bring the dad's and any neighbors or friends for our free Saturday! See ya there! The Living Arts and Science Center is having a Family Fun Day from 10am to 3pm. P-ART-icipate! Spring into action and join us for our annual Family Fun Day of FREE hands-on activities for the entire family! Enjoy all that is new at the LASC and explore the entire LASC campus! Experiment and explore our exhibits,maker space, clay studio and more. Hands-on art and science activities with LASC teachers, indoors and out!Food and drink will be available for purchase. Wolf Run Wildlife Refuge is having a Wolf Selfie event from 12pm to 4pm. Wolf Run will be at Incredipet on Richmond Road this Saturday, May 13th from noon until 4:00 pm for "Wolf Selfies!" This popular event is fun for the entire family! Bring a cell phone and we'll take your photo with our ambassador hybrid wolf, Nayeli! Only $10.00 each and you'll leave with three pictures on your own cell phone that you can show off to friends on facebook and Instagram! It's a great gift for the mom's that are animal lovers and fun for the entire family! The selfies are open for everyone with a special focus on moms! Proceeds benefit Wolf Run! Come see us! Michaels Stores are having a MAKEbreak Mother's Day Frame and Free Instax Photo event from 1pm to 3pm. Make mom smile! Take a MAKEbreak this Saturday from 1-3pm local time. Headley-Whitney Museum of Art is having a Groovy Thread Tie-Dye event from 1pm to 3pm. Bring t-shirts, socks, and pillowcases to dye and we will provide the supplies and instruction you need to convert your dingy whites into works of art! Barnes and Noble is having a How to Raise a Mom Mother's Day Storytime event at 11am. This hilarious, heartwarming new story about raising a happy, healthy mom is filled with charming role-reversal humor, creative ideas and lots of love! Activities to follow. More information here.

McConnell Springs is having a Bluegrass Birding Festival and Craft Fair from 9am to 4pm. Kid's Bird Walks at 12pm and 2pm. Face painting all day and from 11am to 3pm, there will be a birds of prey display. Vendors and speakers will be there as well. More information here.

Carnegie Center is having an Explore your World: Social Studies event from 12pm to 6pm. This weekly class is an invaluable opportunity to introduce students to social studies. We will use engaging books to explore topics such as cultural diversity, economics, and more in a FUN, kid-friendly format! For grades k-3. More information and to register here.

Eastside Library is having an Intro to Melt and Pour Soap Making from 2pm to 4pm. Come and have fun crafting glycerin soap. Design and make three 4 ounce bars of soap to take with you at the end of class. You will be experimenting with color, fragrance, texture, embeds, and different shapes for your soap. This is a great introduction to the easiest type of soapmaking. We will not be using any harsh chemicals, so this class is appropriate for children who are old enough to work safely with hot liquids. Tates Creek Library is having a Magic School Bus Explores Butterflies event from 2pm to 3pm. Hands-on science fun. For ages 5-10. Registration required. More information and to register here.

Sky Zone has Toddler Time from 10am to 11am. Let your kids 5 and under enjoy three different jumping areas, including a foam pit. Toddler Time is a great shared experience for child and parent. A time for your little ones to discover the joy of being active, bouncing under the supervision of their parents, and without interference from the big kids. $12 per child, including socks. $2 extra for non-jumper parent socks.
