What's Happening this Weekend- April 22nd and 23rd

After the whirlwind of the past few weeks, a much quieter weekend coming up. Check out Discovery Saturday, a We are the Dinosaurs story time, go to sunrise trackside, or Dare to Dream at Disney on Ice. Looks like rain this weekend and much cooler temperatures, with highs in the low 50s on Saturday and low 60s on Sunday.

Saturday, April 22nd

Artworks at the Carver School is having a Circus Arts Workshop (ages 7-14) from 1-4 p.m. Learn basic circus skills, including stilt walking, clowning, juggling and more during this unique workshop led by My Nose Turns Red, the premiere Cincinnati-based circus skills school! The Living Arts and Science Center is having a Discovery Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Planetarium Show 11:00 and 1:15. Join Big Bird and Elmo as they explore the night sky with Hu Hu Zhu, a Muppet from “Zhima Jie,” the Chinese co-production of Sesame Street. Together they take an imaginary trip from Sesame Street to the moon, where they discover how different it is from Earth. Family Workshops: am workshop 10:30 – 12pm. Backyard Gardening with Maggie Rogers. Pm workshop 12:30 – 2:00pm. Plastic Bottle Flowers with Sonja Brooks. Barnes and Noble is having a We Are the Dinosaurs Storytime

Special Event at 11:00 AM. Laurie Berkner's chart-topping, beloved hit "We Are the Dinosaurs" is now a picture book! Featuring an adorable cast of characters and vibrant, playful art by Ben Clanton, We Are the Dinosaurs transports readers back to a time when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Don't miss out! Joseph Beth is having a The Kentucky Ballet Theatre presents Peter Pan event at 11:00 am All you need is faith, trust and a little pixie dust to enjoy a magical in store mini performance. More information here.

Keeneland is having a Sunrise Trackside event from 7am to 8:30am. Join us every Saturday morning during the race meeting for Sunrise Trackside. Enjoy Breakfast with the Works, watch the horses train on the track and enjoy free children’s activities in the Kids Club Corner like face painting, photos in jockey silks and meet Buckles the Kids Club mascot. After breakfast, learn more about the horse industry during our fun and educational paddock demonstration. Breakfast: Equestrian Dining Room from 7-8:30 a.m. $7 for breakfast buffet. Georgetown Kite and Cultural Festival from noon to 5pm. Kite Flying, Cultural dancers and demonstrations, children's activities, free inflatables, live music, food and craft vendors. Free to enter, but parking is $7. More information here.

Sky Zone has Toddler Time from 10am to 11am. Let your kids 5 and under enjoy three different jumping areas, including a foam pit. Toddler Time is a great shared experience for child and parent. A time for your little ones to discover the joy of being active, bouncing under the supervision of their parents, and without interference from the big kids. $12 per child, including socks. $2 extra for non-jumper parent socks. Lexington Dance Factory has a Mommy and Me class (ages walking to 2 years) from 9am to 9:30am. Free. More information here.

Joseph Beth is having an event in celebration of Poetry Month and our spring Kids Bargain Book Blowout at 1pm! Join us as we celebrate The Giving Tree with songs, stories and a craft! Lexington Children's Theatre is performing Diary of a Worm, Spider, and and a Fly at 2pm. It’s a bug’s life – and in this case, a bug’s musical! Based on the wildly popular book series, by Doreen Cronin, we’ll explore what it means to be a bug – it might not bee all that different from beeing you! For ages 4+. $15 children, $18 adults. Story Walk at McConnell Springs. A Story Walk combines the fun of a good book and a nature walk all into one great activity. Join the park staff as we explore the trails and look for the next page of the story. This program is intended for children ages 0-5 years old but everyone is welcome. More information here.

Harmony Day Montessori School is having an Open House from 4:30pm to 6pm. Learn about the Montessori approach. Tour the school. Meet the teachers. Talk with current families about their experience with Harmony Day. More information here.
