It is Lexington Burger Week this week (July 11-17th). And, being the burger lovers that we are, we decided to check out Bru Burgers and their special burger this week. If you aren't familiar with Burger Week, I don't blame you. I happened to see a sponsored post on facebook, but would not have know anything about it otherwise. How it works is that there are 36 participating locations throughout Lexington that make a special burger off menu just for this week. Said burger is only $5 (no sides included). For a list of the burgers (and drool-worthy pictures) see here. Now, these are not on the menu, so when you order, make sure you say it is the Burger Week burger. And, don't get intimidated (unlike me) when you don't see it on the menu or a sign or anything.
We decided on the Bru Burger special burger, which is Brisket, chuck and sirloin blend burger topped with crispy onion straws and slathered in bavarian beer cheese made with Blue Stallion Dunkel. Holy yum! We also had never been to Bru Burger and wanted to check it out. And, looking at their menu, we didn't know if we would go their otherwise since it is pretty pricey (chef burgers $10-$12 and classic burgers $8-$10). And, these prices don't include sides which are $2 for fries, fruit or pasta salad and $3 for onion rings. So, a bit outside what we normally pay for burgers. Their kids menus are all $6, but I didn't take a picture and they don't list it online. I hate that. So, note to self, take more pictures of kids menus in case they hide that information from you. They had high chairs and booster seats and were friendly about my son being there, but I didn't really feel that they were particularly kid-friendly. They don't give crayons or anything to color on. And, I didn't see a ton of kids there when we went.
Food-wise, I can only really comment on the special burger. But, it was really awesome. Super yummy bun and fresh burger and toppings. My kiddo also loved the burger and ate a ton (which is not always commonplace). We also got onion rings and they were good but the coating seemed a bit sweet for us. And, they are huge, so keep that in mind. You are getting a lot of onion in each bite, which I like but my husband does not. We also got the smores cake for dessert (chocolate molton lava cake with homemade fluff and a graham crackers top). It was good, different, but not great. The desserts were around $5.
The restaurant is located in Beaumont near the Liquor Barn. It has ample parking, but did seem to be a fairly small place. They do have a good amount of outdoor seating. They do take reservations (opentable) on their website and over the phone. Another bonus, they do have a separate fairly large gluten free menu. So, that is a huge plus for those needing that. Overall, I don't know if I will be back just based on the pricing. But, if I am ever in the mood for a really good, fancy burger, I know where to head. And, I do love Burger Week, so will have to remember that for next year.
