If there is one thing that is true for all kids of all ages, it is that they grow like crazy and are always in need of more clothes and shoes. We are really lucky in Lexington to have a ton of consignment sales that happen twice a year. The fall/winter clothing sales are usually in August/September and the summer clothing sale is usually around March/April. These are great ways to stock up on what your kiddos are going to need for the upcoming season at great prices. And, they also have a large selection of toys, so you can always find just that toy that your kiddo may need or want. Most of these sales have half-priced sale days on the last day of the sale. Not every item is marked 1/2 priced, so be sure to ask if you aren't sure how they will be marked. Most sales do provide a basket for shopping, but I would recommend taking a bag with you. It is much easier to move around with than a large laundry basket.
The main sales within Lexington are:
Another great sale is Lil' Lambs located at 2800 Tates Creek Road in Centenary Church. Parking is on both sides of this really large church. My advice though is to park in the back of the church. You will exit in the back and will need to walk all the way around the building with your purchases if you park in the front. This sale takes CASH AND CHECKS ONLY. There is an ATM onsite though. The dates for the fall sale this year are Friday, August 26th: 8am-6pm and Saturday, August 27th: 8am-Noon. So, this is a tough one to get to if you work. The half priced sale day is usually Saturday all day. This is one of my favorite sales for toys and sometimes clothing. I usually don't get there until half priced day, so the items are pretty picked through. But, I usually get some nice tops for $1-$2 a piece. And, some play clothing for cheaper. Since you can always use some cheap play clothing with a 2 year old. This sale is also very large and you can move around pretty easily with kids and strollers. Although, the clothing racks can get pretty tight. Toys are a huge find in this particular sale. I have gotten a ton of random toys, puzzles, books and DVDs at really good prices. And, they are organized well so that it doesn't take all day to pick through things. I have found some great clothing for myself and my husband at this sale for super cheap.
This is one of the smaller sales in Lexington. It is located at 4343 Harrodsburg Road Lexington, KY in South Elkhorn Church. I believe they take CASH ONLY at this sale, but couldn't find anything to confirm that. The dates are Friday, September 9, 9 AM – 8 PM and Saturday, September 10, 8 AM-NOON. So, another sale that is hard to get to if you work or need an extra hand with kids. And, the half priced sale is usually on Saturday all day. I have found some good things at this sale, but have only gone on half priced day. This is usually the least crowded sale, so you can score some great finds but may also leave empty handed. Parking is in the church lot.
This is probably the most talked about sale in Lexington. And, it is becoming (or may be already) the biggest. The do take CASH and CREDIT CARDS. They have moved locations again and this year and it is in the Lexington Ice Center (560 Eureka Springs Drive). The dates for the fall sale are September 11-15th. Now, they do have a fairly tricky schedule as to who can shop which days. People selling can shop earlier and those who volunteer also have certain dates. But, the general public can shop Sunday, September 11th 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM; Monday, September 12th 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM; and Tuesday, September 13th 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. They also have half priced days on Wednesday, September 14th 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Thursday, September 15th 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Attached here are the other dates and times for early shopping. Overall, this is my person least favorite sale. I have the hardest time finding boys clothing that is a decent price and in decent shape. Even though they have pretty strict standards to what the accept, I always seem to find items with stains or holes in them at this sale. But, I will say that people with girls seem to find very high quality items for great prices. So, maybe it is better for girls clothing or maybe I just have bad luck. These sales can be very crowded and the space has been tight the last few years, so it is tough to take kiddos to this particular sale and very hard with strollers. Maybe it is better with the larger location this year. One nice thing about this sale is that they put out new things as the sale goes on. So, you can go multiple times and find new things each time.
And, some smaller sales are:
This is another smaller sale located at Faith United Community Church located behind Cracker Barrell across the street from Brannon Crossing. This year, the dates are Thursday, August 18 7PM - 9PM, Friday, August 19 8AM - 2PM and 5PM - 8PM, and Saturday, August 20 8AM - 2PM. This sale is CASH and CREDIT CARD. It does have half priced sale day on Saturday. I have been to this sale a few times and gotten a few small toys or bags of toys, but have not found any clothing. It is another hit or miss.
This sale is also located at Faith United Community Church located behind Cracker Barrel across the street from Brannon Crossing. The dates are Thursday, August 25th 5pm-9pm and Friday, August 26th 9am-1pm. Half price sale will be 4pm -8pm on Friday. This is a very small sale that I have only been to once. I don't remember there being a ton of stuff and I think I left without getting anything.
There are a ton of other sales in surrounding towns, but these are the main ones in Lexington. They are always a bit fun to scour through everything and find something awesome for a great price. I particularly love getting toys at these sales so that you don't have to worry much when they get broken or outgrow them. And, you cannot beat the prices for kids clothing.
