PolkaDot PlaySpot in Georgetown

Cold weather has officially arrived, so I know everyone is trying to figure out indoor places to take the kids to wear them out. A new arrival to the indoor play areas is the Polkadot PlaySpot in Georgetown. Their website is here and their facebook page is here. They are located at 141 Southgate Drive. Turn into the little shopping area on your left when you see the yellow Georgetown Flowers and Gifts sign (they are next door). There is plenty of parking right in front of the building.

Hours: Tuesday through Friday from 9:30am to 3:30pm with private parties on the weekends

Admission: $7 per child 1 year and up with additional siblings $5 each; adults are free

When you get in, you sign in and take off your shoes on the mat. There is quite a variety of different toys, but most are geared towards preschool aged kids. There is a dress-up area with costumes, hats, and masks, an area with babies where your child can dress them, feed them, or put them to bed. Next, there is a kitchen area with lots of different food options, a table and oven. On the other side, there is a balance beam to walk across, a sit and spin, then an area with cars, trucks, trains and a rug with a road on it for them to play with. There is also a large dollhouse in the middle with lots of different people and furniture. In the back of the room is the craft area, which is well stocked with different paints, dobbers, crayons, markers, etc. When we went, there was a specific craft that the owners had in mind, but the kids can play with whatever craft items they enjoy. There is also a bathroom with a changing table in the very back of the room. They change out some of the toys based on the season, so it should be a bit different each time you go.

Overall, my son had a great time playing here. There were a lot of toys that were new to him and he enjoyed being able to move from one area to another finding different items to play with. I liked that the toys were all pretty good quality. Lots of Melissa and Doug items and very few cheap plastic toys. I also liked that few (if any) of the toys made noises. Not only would this get totally overwhelming with multiple kids playing with them, but my son generally plays a lot longer with toys that have many different ways to play with them. I also liked that the toys were kept on bookcases with openings on both sides. This allowed kids to play from either side without having to walk around and get frustrated. There is also an area for the parents to sit while the kids play and relax, which is really nice. And, you can easily see your kiddo from the seating area.

I will say that there were only 3 other kids there when we went and it was comfortable with each kid having plenty of space to play. But, it is a smaller space and could quickly become too crowded if there were more kids there.

Polkadot Playspot does have monthly memberships, which are $20 per month for the first kid, $15 for the second kid and $10 for any kids after that. And, they do birthday parties at $200 for 2 hours of private play.

It is really hard to find good indoor play areas in the Lexington area, especially if you are looking for less physical play areas. I love taking my son to jump places or open gym, but sometimes it is nice to just let him explore and play with different toys in a calm environment. I really think this fits the bill for those days. We had a great time and my son was pretty tired by the time we left. Plus, I love to support local moms that see a need and try to fill it. So, if you are looking for something to do this winter, keep Polkadot Playspot in Georgetown in mind!
