What's Going on this Weekend? January 28th and 29th

We are officially at the last weekend of January! Personally, I am looking forward to spring with all this cold rain we have been getting. This weekend, there are a ton of fun things to do with your kiddos to wear them out and keep you all happy. Check out the Living Arts and Science Center's Discover Saturday, a Lego Batman event, Chess Mates, fun storytimes, Reds autographs, and even a children's play. Saturday is dry with a high of 43 and Sunday looks like snow and a high of 33. Have a safe and fun weekend!

Saturday, January 28th

Living Arts and Science Center is having a Discovery Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Join us for Discovery Saturdays! Kids of all ages will enjoy trying on the spacesuits, climbing through the Orion replica space capsule and seeing the real moon rock collected by Apollo 17, on loan from NASA, in the exhibit Out of this World – A Space Adventure. Try your hand at a self-guided art or science activity in the Maker Space. Explore the universe in the new planetarium. Hands-on activities throughout the building will keep the entire family engaged. End the day with a 30 minute planetarium show starting at 11:00 am and 1:15 pm. Discovery Saturdays will now feature unique FAMILY workshops and activities every month. Explore doll making or comic character creations, paper marbling or backyard gardening, clay flute creation or origami. The sky’s the limit here at the LASC. Each Discovery Saturday will offer two unique workshops suitable for the entire family. Pre-registration suggested. Eastside library is having a Chess Mates event from 10am to 11:30am. Drop-in Chess play! Learn chess basics, meet other chess players, and play pick-up games. All skill levels welcome! For ages 8-up. More information here.

McConnell Springs is having a Weekend Workout from 10am to 11am. Weekend Workout – An opportunity for everyone to help clean the park and maintain the trails.

Joseph Beth is having a Fairytale-Palooza at 11am. Tales of mystery, adventure, knights and dragons there are many things to love about Fairy Tales! Join us as we celebrate ne twists on old tales with stories, songs and a fun craft! More information here.

Barnes and Noble in Hamburg is having a I'll Never Let You Go storytime at 11am. When you love someone, you stand by them no matter what happens. In the story I'll Never Let You Go, we celebrate the beauty of unconditional love. Join us for Storytime and activities. More information here.

Barnes and Noble is also having a Lego Batman Movie Event at 2pm. celebrate the release of The LEGO® Batman Movie. At each event, kids can collect two limited edition trading cards (while supplies last) featuring characters from the movie. The cards collected at all three events will unveil a special scene. Enjoy giveaways, make and play themed moments with LEGO® bricks and blocks plus much more. More information here.

Lexington Children's Theater is putting on Cow's Don't Fly and Other Known Facts at 2pm and 7pm. Between a flying cow, a driving pig, and a circus goose – there’s never a dull moment on Miss Rosemary’s farm! It’s a known fact you’ll laugh ‘til your sides hurt in this silly mash-up of three delightful books by Kentucky author Paul Brett Johnson. For ages 4 and up. $15 for children and $18 for adults. Fayette Mall is hosting a Reds Caravan event from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Stop by Fayette Mall for a chance at autographs and a visit from Reds personalities. More information here.

Wild Thyme is having a Kids Cupcake Wars from 10:30 to 11am. This famously popular show has taken the cupcake craze to a whole new level. In this class, you will not only experiment with flavors and learn cupcake decorating techniques but see first hand the secrets behind a fantastic cupcake.Baking 101 is for anyone who loves to bake, or dreams of the perfect macaroon, cupcake, éclair, etc. etc. This class will explore the fundamentals of baking and give students hands-on instruction and guidance from our instructors covering an in-depth look at the beauty and art of baking.Class Price: $25 More information here.
