What's Happening this Weekend- March 11th and 12th

Lots of great options to get you out and about this weekend! Check out the Comic and Toy Convention, Stache-A-Palooza at the Lexington Legends, the St. Patrick's Day Parade, lots of fun story times, and a LEGO Batman event. The beautiful, warm weather is taking a break this weekend with highs only in the 30s on Saturday and low 40s on Sunday. Maybe even a bit of snow on Saturday to really get you looking for spring. Plus, don't forget to turn your clocks forward an hour early Sunday morning.

Saturday, March 11th

Lexington Comic and Toy Convention from 10am to 7pm. This is a family friendly comic and toy convention with several media guests from many different genres of film and television. Micheal's Stores is having a Painter's Tape Reveal Art Event from 1pm to 3pm. First, you start with a white canvas. Then, you MAKE a masterpiece! The Family Center in Wilmore is having a Booby Traps- Avoiding Early Pitfalls event from 10:30am to 12pm. Join Christina Scribner , IBCLC, CNM, APRN, from Copper Creek Midwifery, for this informative event! Our guest breastfeeding expert will cover common traps that many nursing moms find themselves struggling with, as well as suggestions to help avoid or navigate these traps. This will be a great experience for anyone planning to nurse, nursing or support persons. More information here.

The Family Center in Wilmore is having a Single Parent Power event from 5pm to 7pm. A Monthly meeting for parents like you! Parenting with out a Partner. Everyone is welcome! Meetings are laid back and have lots of time for eating and talking while kids of all ages have something to do! We hope to have things like Game Night, Craft Night, maybe even a special guest or two. Help us spread the word and come hang out!!!DETAILS: Bring the kids or get a sitter, its up to you. $5 meals will be available - sponors coming soon. PolkaDot PlaySpot is having an open play event from 9am to 1pm. Bring your favorite little kids by for fun toys, activities, and crafts. Admission is $7 per child age 1 and up (with a sibling discount available). We hope to see you there! More information here.

Lexington St. Patrick's Day Parade from 8am through the day with the parade starting at 1pm. Features vendors, singers and musicians throughout the day. Eight performance groups will be taking the Irish festival stage on Saturday, March 11, 2017, as part of the city’s 38th Annual Alltech St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival. The lineup features local musicians and dancers, as well as two international acts.The festival is part of an all-day celebration that begins at 8 a.m. with the Shamrock Shuffle to benefit Lexington Habitat for Humanity. For 2017, the Irish festival will be held at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza at 120 N. Limestone in downtown Lexington. It begins at 10:45 a.m. and the annual “Blessing of the Keg” will be held at the Alltech tents at 11 a.m. The parade begins at 1 p.m.Our yearly festival lineup features musicians, singers and dancers from across Kentucky and, in 2017, the world!More information here.

Salato Wildlife Center in Frankfort is having a Bear Aware Enrichment event at 11am. Since black bears are very smart and spend a lot of their time searching for food, being "Bear Aware" means being mindful of food and garbage storage. We invite you to witness an enrichment that will demonstrate just how skilled black bears can be at making campsite mischief! This special enrichment starts at 11am at the black bear exhibit. Legacy All Sports is having a Saturday Night Open Gym. 6pm to 9 p.m. Children 5 and up may stay unattended; all others may have a parent accompany them in the gym. The cost is $15 per participant. Concessions are available at most open gyms; snacks, candy, drinks, and pizza (per slice) are $1 each. Concessions Cards are available for purchase at any desired amount during open gym sign-in. Barnes and Noble in Hamburg is having a Dancing Storytime at 11am. Barnes and Noble in Hamburg is having a LEGO Batman Movie event at 2pm. Kids will be able to help Batman protect Gotham from the Joker by making their very own LEGO Batman Speedwagon! Joseph Beth is having a Get the Job Done story time at 11am. Get messy, Build it Big and WORK together! Everyone's favorite crew of tough construction machines is back together and we couldn't be happier! Celebrate with stories, songs and a fun craft! Ages 3 and up. More information here.

The Hummel Planetarium at EKU is showing One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure at noon and Awesome Light: Episode 3 at 1:30pm. One World, One Sky is recommended for children up to 2nd grade and with special needs. Awesome Light: Episode 3 is more advanced. Adults $6, children $5 and children under 3 are free. The Living Arts and Science Center is having a The Second Star to the Right story time at 12:30pm in partnership with Lexington Childrens Theatre! Explore “A Space Adventure” Discovery Room starting at 10 am. Come to the Planetarium at 12:30 to enjoy Lexington Children’s Theatre’s “Second Star to the Right” Story Time with Peter Pan Jr., followed by a showing of “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure” at 1:15pm. Tickets are $4.00 and can be purchased in advance here.

Cinemark Fayette Mall Theater is having a sensory friendly showing of the LEGO Batman movie at 10am. The lights and music will be turned down to for a more sensory friendly experience. Tickets are $5.75. More information here.

Kentucky State University in Frankfort will host Kids Fest 2017 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Exum Center gymnasium. Admission is free. The fun-filled event will feature hands-on learning activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, inflatables, door prizes, music, refreshments and exciting performances.Kids Fest is sponsored by the Franklin County Community Early Childhood Council and is designed to promote health, wellness and educational opportunities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. The Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning is having a Toddler and Early Learner Combined story time event from 10:30am to 11:30am. For 2-5 year-olds & their parents/guardians. Join us for story time, parent-assisted activities, and snacks designed to encourage early excitement for reading through hands-on activities for parent and child. This laid-back atmosphere is friendly to busy toddlers and preschoolers and is a great first-introduction to a story-time setting. Now offering two date options per month! Choose one date each month; you may change month-to-month depending on which day works best for you. Sky Zone has Toddler Time from 10am to 11am. Let your kids 5 and under enjoy three different jumping areas, including a foam pit. Toddler Time is a great shared experience for child and parent. A time for your little ones to discover the joy of being active, bouncing under the supervision of their parents, and without interference from the big kids. $12 per child, including socks. $2 extra for non-jumper parent socks. Norton Center in Danville, KY is having an Odd Squad-LIVE event at 2pm. Attention Odd Squad fans! Something very odd has happened in your home town. Ms. O needs YOU to team up with Odd Squad agents in this live, interactive adventure based on the Daytime Emmy Award-winning hit television series on PBS KIDS. There will be gadgets!
