What's Happening this Weekend March 18th and 19th


Lots of great things to do this weekend both indoors and out. Check out STEM Saturday, Elsa and Anna Photo Op and Craft, Princess Tea and Superhero Bounce, Open Mic, Egg or Caterpillar Story Times, indoor petting zoo, and a Lego event. Outdoors, check out a Jr. Naturalist event, a creek walk, or Bobcat enrichment. We are finally having a warm up this weekend, with highs in the low to mid 50s Saturday and Sunday and no rain expected. I don't know about you, but I am ready for some outdoor play. Saturday, March 18th

The Family Center in Wilmore is having a STEM Saturday with Mathnasium event from 10am to 12pm. MATH FUN!!!Activities for the whole family, but this event is geared toward ages 5-15! More information here.

J's Place in Nicholasville is having an Elsa and Anna Free Photo Op and Craft from 11am to 1pm. Elsa & Anna from Disney's Frozen will be at J's Place! Bring your cameras for an enchanting visit! Free craft and photo op. More information here.

Good Foods Coop is having a Seeds and Sprouts Spring Festival 11am to 3pm. Swap seeds, share some gardening know-how and learn a little, too! We're getting ready for planting season together on March 18th.Bring the whole family as we teach you how to make an insect hotel, how to grow fresh produce from food scraps and take some seeds home for planting (or share your seeds with your neighbors).We'll also be hosting two workshops in our Community Room during the event:-At 11:30 am Seedleaf will be hosting a Wormshop. Learn all about keeping worms and composting with them.-At 1 pm we'll have a workshop on creating and keeping a tomato seed bank to store and share your best heirloom varieties.Many community partners will also be in attendance:-Live Green Lexington will have information on "Acts of Green”, or small changes you can make that will have an impact on the Lexington community, as well as volunteer opportunities and proper tree care/ tree pruning for street trees.-EARTHeim LLC Landscape Design Studio will set you up with composting help and pointers for attracting pollinators to your garden with native plants.-Wild Ones Lexington will answer your questions about attracting butterflies to your garden and planting native species.-And our neighbors, Lexington Habitat ReStore, will have a selection of recycled or upcycled flower pots, rakes, shovels and other gardening equipment for sale so you can get your growing season started right away! The Showroom in Danville is having a Princess Dollie & Me Tea and Superhero Bounce event from 1pm to 4pm. Put on your cape or fanciest dress and join us for our Princess Dollie & Me Tea and Superhero Bounce. Young ladies are invited to bring their doll along with moms or dads for a afternoon of memories to treasure. Lunch will be served with a special table side seat for your doll, crafts, photo booth, and a cupcake decorating station will be provided with ticket price. We will have hair stylist on site for girl's to get their hair done, & photographer for an additional cost. Young men along with their dads or moms can jump and watch basketball in Kango. Joseph Beth is having a Caterpillar Wiggle event at 11am for ages 3 and up. Celebrate Very Hungry Caterpillar Day early! We'll have lots of fun sharing songs, stories, wiggles and a fun craft. More information here.

Joseph Beth is also having a Kid's Open Mic with John Crissman at 2pm. Get your silly costumes, magic tricks and best jokes ready for this spectacular monthly event! Kids tell the jokes to a live bookstore audience in a fun and friendly environment! More information here.

Barnes and Noble in Hamburg is having and Egg Storytime at 11am. Egg is a graphic novel for preschoolers about four eggs, one big surprise and an unlikely friendship by Caldecott Medalist and New York Times bestselling author Kevin Henkes. Egg is not only a perfect Easter gift, but also a classic read-alone and read-aloud that will appeal all year long. Join us for this Storytime, with coloring and activities to follow. McConnell Springs is having a Jr Naturalist: Bringing Nature Home event from 10am to 11am. Learn about different ways to attract animals to your home and build an item that is sure to draw interest from animals. For youth K-5th grade. Please call the park at (859) 225-4073 to register.

Lower Howard's Creek Nature Preserve in Winchester is having a creek walk from 10am to 11am. Winter is a great time to explore Lower Howard’s Creek without its usual cover of vegetation blocking our views of its unique topography. It’s an opportunity to visit areas not usually seen in the other three seasons of the year, and heat is not an issue! All hikes will be at 10 a.m., at the main entrance on Athens-Boonesboro, unless otherwise noted. A few ephemeral early wildflowers may be showing themselves on this hike. Clare Sipple will lead this hike. Since this is a Kentucky State Nature Preserve, no dogs are allowed on the hikes. All children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. The terrain at the Preserve is quite steep and rocky, so please wear appropriate shoes or boots. Group size is limited, and it is requested that you make reservations in advance. Sky Zone has Toddler Time from 10am to 11am. Let your kids 5 and under enjoy three different jumping areas, including a foam pit. Toddler Time is a great shared experience for child and parent. A time for your little ones to discover the joy of being active, bouncing under the supervision of their parents, and without interference from the big kids. $12 per child, including socks. $2 extra for non-jumper parent socks. Lexington Dance Factory has a Mommy and Me class (ages walking to 2 years) from 9am to 9:30am. Free. More information here.

Eastside Library is having a Lego Lab from 10am to 12pm. Put your imagination to work and join us for some free-builld Lego fun. Plan, create, and build at your own pace or work with friends. For grades K-5. More information here.

Central Library is having a Make a Kite event from 2pm to 4pm. Enjoy March's windy weather ! Come make a kite to fly! More information here.

Madison County Libraries are having an indoor petting zoo at the Berea location and Richmond location. Richmond is from 10:30am to 12:20pm and Berea is from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. It's almost here!Come join us this Saturday for an indoor petting zoo at both library locations! The indoor petting zoo presented by Honey Hill Farm may include exotic chickens and guinea pigs, ducks, rabbits, chinchillas, pygmy hedgehogs, a sulcata tortoise, a patagonian cavy, and a kangaroo! Salato Wildlife Center is having a Bobcat Enrichment at 2:30pm. Enrichments are a way to ensure the health and satisfaction of our exhibit animals by providing them stimulating activities and situations that encourage their natural behaviors. The Children's Theatre is performing Peter Pan Jr at 2pm and 4pm. Lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, Music by Morris “Moose” Charlap, Additional Lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Additional Music by Jule StyneJust past the second star on the right, and straight on ‘til morning! Fly to Neverland and go on a musical adventure with Peter, Wendy, and the Lost Boys – but be on the lookout for Captain Hook! Join us for this musical adventure based on the Broadway classic!
