What's Happening this Weekend- April 1st and 2nd


It's official, Easter events are filling the calendar this weekend! Go on a few Easter egg hunts, decorate Easter eggs, build a bunny basket, and Big Blue Bunny Day. Or, check out a Beauty and the Beast story time, Minecraft event, April Fool's Day events and see the Little Mermaid. Weather is looking a bit cooler this weekend with Saturday being a high of 59 and cloudy and Sunday being a high of 69 and sunny. Enjoy!

Saturday, April 1st

Michael's Stores are having an Easter Egg Decorating Event from 1pm to 3pm. Bring your family into stores on Saturday, April 1, 1-3PM local standard time and decorate an Easter egg any way you please! Buy any egg in the store, and the rest of your supplies are free! More information here.

Star 103.7's Easter Egg Roll event in Frankfort from 10am to 12pm. Admission:The Easter Egg Roll promotes literacy in Franklin County. We are asking that you donate a new or gently used book for admission. We will donate these books to the Reach Out and Read program.*The first 300 kids will receive a free goody bag!*Be sure to check in at the Star tent to get your wrist band for the egg roll.Activities:*The Easter Bunny will be taking pictures from 10am-11am*The Egg Roll will be split into age groups 0-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12. The winner of each Egg Roll heat will win a small prize! The Egg Rolls will start at 11am.*The Capital Plaza Hotel will have a coloring contest. Winners will get a free buffet*Frankfort Y.M.C.A. Hopewell Museum in Paris is having a Free Family Fun Hour: Ukrainian Easter Egg event from 2pm to 4pm. Free for families and children with supplies included. This is a traditional Ukrainian pysanky Easter Egg craft with instructor Betty Overly. More information here.

The Bluegrass Youth Ballet is performing The Little Mermaid at 2pm. Made popular by the animated film,The Little Mermaid, audiences world-wide know the story of a mermaid longing to be a human.Experience Hans Christian Andersen’s telling of this classic fairy tale.Narrated in both English and Spanish. Tickets start at $15. More information here. And, after the show, join BYB immediately following the Saturday performance for an “Under the Sea” Tea Party. Held in Pardy’s Pub downstairs of the Lexington Opera House, attendees will enjoy tea and cookies while meeting and interacting with The Little Mermaid cast members.Tickets are $8/person. Joseph Beth is having Diary of A Worm, A Spider and a Fly Preview featuring The Lexington Children's Theatre Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 am. Join us for a special preview performance! It's a bug's life – and in this case, a bug's musical! Based on the wildly popular book series, by Doreen Cronin, we'll explore what it means to be a bug – it might not bee all that different from beeing you! Barnes and Noble in Hamburg is having a Celebration of Beauty and The Beast storytime at 11:00 AM. Join us as we celebrate the release of the new Beauty and the Beast movie. In addition to a special Storytime, kids of all ages are invited to sing favorite songs from the movie soundtrack and participate in other fun activities. Attendees will receive a mini-poster and bookmark, while supplies last. More information here.

Home Depot is having a Build a Bunny Basket Kids Event from 9am to 12pm. Join our hands-on workshop and you and your child can build a bunny basket, perfect for keeping Easter treats a short hop away. Once the basket is built, your child can decorate it with paint and stickers. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin. More information here.

Beaumont Library is having a Minecraft: Exploration! event from 930am to 11:30am. Build! Discover! Explode! Explore this popular game for all ages. Come alone or with a child. No gaming experience needed. Prerequisite: Students should be able to use the mouse and keyboard. More information here.

Eastside Library is having a Teen DIY: April Fools Edition from 2pm to 3pm. Make a variety of crafts to fake out your friends! All materials provided. Grades 7-12. More information here.

Northside Library is having a Storycorps Storytime event from 1pm to 4pm. Come to the library with your special adult--parent, grandparent, guardian, aunt, uncle, etc.--to preserve a memory of them reading a story to you. Digital studio staff will film the storytime and create a DVD for you to keep! More information here.

Village Branch Library is having an April Fool's Scavenger Hunt from 11am to 4pm. Someone played a trick on the library! Visit us between 11 AM and 4 PM to hunt for the prankster's jokes. More information here.

Sky Zone has Toddler Time from 10am to 11am. Let your kids 5 and under enjoy three different jumping areas, including a foam pit. Toddler Time is a great shared experience for child and parent. A time for your little ones to discover the joy of being active, bouncing under the supervision of their parents, and without interference from the big kids. $12 per child, including socks. $2 extra for non-jumper parent socks. Keeneland Kid's Club is having their Easter Egg Hunt from 1pm to 4pm. Easter Egg hunt begins at 2:30pm. Enjoy Easter crafts, cookie decorating, pony rides, a petting zoo with baby animals from Shaker Vilalge and more. Don't miss the opportunity to have your photo made with the Easter Bunny and Buckles.
